Children and Teens

When do I seek counseling for my child or my teen?

When a child’s behavior is problematic at home or at school, counseling could be part of a holistic solution to help your child. Whether it’s ADHD behaviors, aggression, or anxiety, there are tools that can help bring change about in your child and peace of mind to your family.

Parents can expect changes when their children reach their teenage years and much of what families experience can be classified as normal. However, if your teen shows signs of serious depression, isolation from peers, suspected drug use, extreme apathy, a significant drop in school performance, weight loss / gain or cutting (to name a few things), then counseling would be recommended.

Individual Counseling

When is individual counseling helpful?

When stressors become too difficult to manage alone or when depression and / or anxiety become debilitating and encroach on daily functioning, then individual counseling can be beneficial.

Sometimes pressures become too great and our daily ability to function in society diminishes. Or we feel like we will implode and taking care of ourselves properly feels like climbing a mountain.

In these situations, counseling can make accomplishing the tasks of daily life feel more possible. We work with individuals to assess client struggles, create a treatment plan, and work toward a common goal.

Family Counseling

We are Interconnected

The guiding philosophy of all family therapy is built on the interactions of parents with children and children with parents.

Family therapy allows individuals in a family system to discuss tough matters with an unbiased person. Therapists look for patterns in relationships and help family members better understand how they may be contributing to stress.

Each person involved has a chance to learn new ways to communicate and contribute to making the family system run more smoothly.

Family therapy can help create lasting change in family relationships. Counseling takes courage and family counseling can be messy; but with perseverance and a willingness to try new skills, families can see improvement over time.

Fees and Insurance

The decision to use insurance when receiving counseling is a personal one.  Benefits include lower cost counseling and reimbursement for out of network insurance members.  Drawbacks include limits of confidentiality when sending insurance companies client diagnoses which insurance plans require in order to reimburse a counselor.

We are an in-network provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, and Aetna.  Please check with your insurance company regarding your  co-pay and deductible prior to your first session as all plans differ.  Out of network and self pay clients are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate prior to their first counseling session. Please inquire for more details. Self pay fee is $110.00 / session.
